When will TS2009 be released?

Subject to final quality control, the final TS2009:WBE version will be available for Digital Download in late November 2008. Boxed copy orders will be shipped in December 2008.

Do you have to be online to use Content Manager?

No. You can choose whether to enter your Planet Auran username or not, so simply log in when you want online access (Open CM->File->Settings->Internet). This will allow you to access the Trainz Download Station.

Does having my Planet Auran username entered slow down Trainz?

The first time you log in, Content manager will build an index of the trainz Download Station in your Trainz Database. This enables you to rapidly search the DLS for content and identify when newer versions of content that become available. The first index will take 5-15 minutes but after that there is seldom any noticeable performance delay by logging in.

Why should I register my Serial Number online?

Entering your serial number into your Planet Auran Profile gives you access to the Trainz Download Station and also to Trainz Online. This allows you to discover more about the world of Trainz and expands your experience with new content and new friends. Also by registering your Trainz Serial Number, we can be sure that you have purchased your copy of Trainz and thereby you are supporting future development.

Can I still make content using GMax?

Although Gmax is no longer supported by Discreet (who also make 3D Studio Max) or by Auran, it will still be possible to create products using Gmax. In fact you can make content exactly the way you did before, or you can add more polys and higher resolution textures. What you canít do using GMax is save an item as a 2.9 Build asset. This means you are effectively making items for 2004 or 2006 but thanks to backwards compatibility, of course these can be imported into 2009.You can also make an item in GMax and make a normal map in another software package.

Why doesnít Auran support GMax?

With TS2009 we have enabled much higher polygon models and expanded support for normal maps. These measures will ensure that TS2009 looks better than any previous version. However, since you canít use Gmax to add normal maps and because Autodesk (who now own Gmax) stopped supporting Gmax years ago, we really have no choice. We have developed a number of new exporters and also an XML importer (Trainz Mesh Importer) which allows easy exporting/importing from various 3D packages.

Will all my old content work in 2009?

The short answer is that MOST of your favourite content from previous versions of Trainz will work in TS2009. However, certain standards have changed and bugs have been fixed (and sometimes assets would work even though they werenít configured correctly). This will inevitably mean that a few items will not work until the original creator releases an updated version.

What testing have you done on Download Station content?

We have passed all 100,000 items through Content Manager error checking and where possible fixed problems that were identified. The vast majority of these items have been updated although there are items that cannot be fixed. For example, where the author has not included a texture, we cannot simply make a new one.
